This is certainly the 10th anniversary edition because it's already been the toughest to organise of all of the previous 9. First we're running a bigger version of the normal Copa, then we're moving locations to a bigger and better host in Nottingham, then we're moving again to the beach and NOW...final change I swear...we're going back to the original venue. We started the 10th anniversary idea hoping to make this one helluva blow out! From there the idea just kept getting bigger and it seems we were finding others who were interested in helping out. The problems started to pop up when the date grew nearer and fixed costs like the marquee and toilets and food started to come into play and some of the helpful people started being not so helpful and realise this was going to be...ahem...work. So...with all this in mind our journey that started at the Moderns Rugby club using the Meadows as our pitches (as we've done for the past 7 years or so) is going to stay put. We're not using the grounds we bid for worlds because although they're wonderful and lush, they won't let us have camping there and they've doubled the cost of hiring them since we originally bid. The other Rugby club called "The Casuals" who said we could use them for camping changed their mind at the last minute after giving us months of grinning thumbs up. Casuals by name but not by nature is seems. Moving out of Nottingham and setting up on a mile square plot of golden untouched sand on the east coast of Britain and have plans for both an Elite (Champagne) division, a Standard (Open) division was a brilliant idea that was met with some scepticism (rightfully so) but as it turns out, portable showers cost more than buying weapons grade uranium. (don't worry the Copa del Soul is still on) So...we're back. Although we're back at the Moderns we're not going to let this 10th anniversary special be a standard affair. We've said it many times already and we'll say it again. This years Copa marquee is a massive big top with the stage inside. The acts are booked. The aerial photographer is on stand-by. The toilets are much much cheaper and the DJs are mobile. This one is going to be HUGE! Starting with a welcome party on the 27th with games running from Saturday the 28th until Monday the 30th, it's 3 days of good Ultimate and 3 nights of the sleepless good times that the Copa has grown it's reputation for. |
